Florence is a city up there amongst those with the best history, art and architecture. Its location near the centre of Italy makes it easily accessible from Rome to its south and Bologna, Venice and Milan to the North. It is also serviced by its own airport. The downside of this is that it is very crowded especially around the more central touristic areas. Top attractions in the city include the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Uffizi Gallery and the Ponte Vecchio. From an eating and drinking perspective there is plenty to choose from. This ranges from traditional cuisine to more contemporary restaurants so you are never spoilt for choice including one of my favourite seafood restaurants. A couple of days here is enough and the city is easily covered on foot. From here you can venture out into the Tuscan countryside for a break away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the rolling landscape of Tuscany.
