Nestled midway between Milan and Venice is the beautiful city of Verona. I say city as that is how it is classed in Italy but many may view it as a large town and it is easily walkable. Given its location this amazing city is almost ‘lost’, pardon the pun.  But within it is an amazing Roman amphitheater, it you happen to be there at the right time there are various performances and shows to see. One of the most popular things to see is the balcony from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.  How this came to be such a popular attraction is something of a mystery to me as there is no evidence that Shakespeare ever travelled to Italy. But the great writer must have been onto something all those years ago as he set a third of his plays in Italy and Romeo and Juliet in Verona. So rather than look at the history it is better to take in the beauty of Verona and enjoy taking a step back in time.  Given its smaller size it is also easy to enjoy the shops, have a meal, aperitif or some gelato. To get to Verona is very quick, easy and cheap from Milan, Bologna and Venice. I wouldn’t think you would need more than a day here especially if you are driving unless you plan to take in a performance at Verona Arena then obviously stay the night and relax.
